Is it normal for my CVT automatic Toyota Yaris to roll backwards when on a hill in 'Drive'?

I find that my new Toyota Yaris TR VVT-i CVT will roll backwards on a hill in "Drive" unless I have my foot on the accelerator or brake. This seems wrong to me as my previous car with CVT (MG ZR 120 Stepspeed) did not move an inch. I believed this stability was a function of CVT transmissions. Toyota is no help. It is as if nobody has ever raised this query before. Before I really chase them can you tell me whether the tendency to roll is normal with CVT cars?

Normal. You simply left foot brake. There are two pedals. You've got two feet. Why make life unnecessarily difficult by only using one foot?
