Best soft-roader?

I am planning on buying a used 4x2 soft roader and have up to £20k to spend. I would like a mix of performance, resale value and economy. I drive about 10,000 miles per year and have considered a Yeti, BMW X1 and Honda CRV. Which would be the best bet or are there others to consider? Is it best to wait until the summer for prices to reduce?

A CR-V 2.2iCTDI (not an iDTEC). Or a Mazda CX-7 2.2 diesel. (These are part-time 4WD.) The most fun is a Yeti 1.8TSI 160 4WD.
