TYRE OPTIONS

My wife has a new Mini Cooper SD Auto on the 17" Split Rims, 205/45/17, non run flat tyres and the ride is harsh and choppy. If I change to 205/55/16 tyres will there be any appreciable improvement in ride quality? Also I presume I should stay away from Run-Flat tyres if I want comfort?
