Passat fuel consumption - recall has improved fuel comsumption

We have had a 56 reg Passat TDI140 for 4 1/2 Years and it's always averaged 45-48 mpg winter/summer and alway run really well. There has just been a recall to replace the injectors and we now find that it's averaging 51 plus, doing the same daily 20 mile round trips. We have not done a long run yet but I'm guessing that it will be doing a few more mpg when we do.

Why should this be? The previous return over the years seemed acceptable for this engine but this is a significant improvement. Has anyone else experienced the same?

Not heard of this before but will post in car by car. Very good news. Probably simply because the new injectors are new and are clean and ambient temperatures are now higher.
