What injectors does my Passat have?

I currently own a Volkswagen 1.9TDI Passat, 2004 model, which has been in a Volkswagen garage with problems with the engine management light being on.

Have been told by the garage that the fuel injectors have to be replaced at a cost of £3000 and it is not being covered by Volkswagen, but what I can't understand is why I have a friend with a 58 reg Passat which had the same problem - and his was covered by Volkswagen.

I know there is 4 years difference in the age of the cars but surely if its the same problem Volkswagen should cover mine also.

These are completely different cars. The 2004 has 'pumpe duse' injectors. The 2008 has piezeo electric injectors. The piezo electric injectors have been found to be faulty and are being replaced.
