Discordant Jazz - transmission confusion

Like you, for eight years I have been an avid Honda Jazz Fan. However, having recently bought the new model with the new I-shift I am in despair. It is a horrible drive and I should be grateful to have your comments and advice on it please?

Why Honda has changed its former excellent automatic gearbox to this, I do not know, and I wondered if you had heard the rumour that they are considering reintroducing it next year? Living in a very hilly, rural area I am dreading what it will be like in snow.

Let me try to help you understand it. It's an automated manual, not an automatic. It uses electronics and an electrically operated clutch to change gear manually for you. To protect the gearbox from severe torque reactions, it has to dampen acceleration on upchanges, especially from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd.

If you then push the accelerator harder, you will get a lurch. if you lift, you won't. You will either be able to get used to this, or you won't. This year, Honda is either going to abandon the I-shift and replace it with the same sort of CVT the Jazz used to have, or offer the CVT as an alternative to the i-shift.
