Clicking noise from the immobiliser

I keep on getting a clicking noise from what I believe is the immobiliser unit box under the glovebox.

The faults include intermittent working of the windows, radio, indicators and window wipers and the central locking.

I have bought a second hand unit from the scrapyard and once replacing the clicking noise stoped but the car would not start, so I re-fitted the old one back and after resetting the key the car started again ok but the clicking noise came back.

I have also bought a new battery but problem is still there.

The reason it wouldn't start is that the ECU would not recognise the replacement immobiliser.

Sometimes you can try this . Disconnect the battery, refit the second hand immobiliser, reconnect the battery BUT DO NOT SWITCH ANYTHING ON. Leave for 30 mins and then try to start it.

This allows the ECU to re configure itself. It may work.
If not then would suggest you get a auto electrician to look at it (not a mechanic) he should be able to diagnose the fault by testing on the car.
