How do I register a classic French car in the UK?

I have an 1988 Renault 4 bought in France 20 years ago. It is now here on my drive in the UK but how do I register it to drive it?

In order to register an imported vehicle into the UK, you need to fill out a Notice Of Vehicle Arrival (NOVA) and send it to HMRC, who will determine if any duties are due. This is unlikely if you have owned the car for 20 years. To register it here you will need to obtain an MOT test and then fill out an application for first registration.
