Are letters DOT required on new tyres?

Hi I have had Michelin crossclimate tyres fitted which have a code 0723 with a few other codes preceding it.

However there are no letters DOT anywhere on either tyre. A search tells me the letters DOT being present is a legal requirement in US and Michelin have recalled tyres previously because its missing. Are letters DOT also a UK legal requirement?

One of the tyres has the date code only visible from the underside of the car. Is that usual? It's not sensible.

The DOT abbreviation refers to the Department of Transportation which is the US body for transport administration, so it is not essential that your tyres have this marking. The 0723 code is the date code, which would suggest your tyres were made in the seventh week of 2023.

We would expect the date code to be printed on both sides of the tyre, so if the other three tyres have the date code visible from the outside but the other does not, this may suggest this tyre has been fitted incorrectly.
