How can I track down an old car that my grandad once owned?

My granddad passed away this week and going through photos of him I found a picture of his old BMW. According to DVLA the V5C was last issued in July 2007 but it hasn’t been taxed or had an MoT since November 2007. Where do I start looking for it?

Unfortunately there are no means of tracking down a car based on its registration alone.

If you think the vehicle is still out there, your best bet might be to try posting on BMW forums and groups and ask if anyone has seen the vehicle recently. Given that it has been off the road since 2007, there is a good chance it may not be in a salvageable condition.
