Short journeys and low speeds cause harmful deposits to accumulate inside a catalytic converter.

The easiest and cheapest way to remove these is to drive continuously for 15 miles at an average of 4000 rpm. This means the cat reaches its optimum temperature allowing these deposits to be burnt away internally. This is usually more effective than so-called cat cleaners.
