Should diesel particulate filter (DPF) failures be covered by a manufacturer warranty?

Is the MG seven year warranty any good? The catalytic converter has failed (or the particulate filter) after only three years. Is that acceptable to be excluded from cover?

Depends on the nature of the failure. If it a manufacturing fault then I would expect MG to contribute towards the cost of the repair. However, if the DPF has clogged up due to the fact the car is used for repeated short journeys, MG won't be to blame.
A DPF needs at least 15 miles per trip to complete a successful cycle. Failure to cover this essential distance will result in the filter shutting down mid-cycle and clogging up with the unburnt particulate matter.
