Humper cars

I read your response to G.M. of Thornbury (25th April) with interest. In Slough we are saturated with speed humps and cushions but, in fairness, on my road there are some that are actually acceptable. Their height, girth and length make driving over them in your recommended manner (one-side on, other side off, or vice versa) perfectly comfortable at sensible speeds. Regrettably, we also have humps in the area that no matter how you address them can only cause distress to vehicle and occupants. I do not like these encumbrances but if they are to be there are there any published standards to which they must conform?

Can't be more than 100mm high. But there don't seem to be any standards for maintenance. The crumbling sides of speed cushions are ripping the inner sidewalls of car tyres to shreds. Many crashes caused by blowouts could have been indirectly caused by tyre damage from speed cushions.
