Just a quick e-mail to see if you know how to fight local councils over potholes. I recently punctured my rear tyre in a large pot hole. Being a BMW B10 3.3 Alpina the tyre cost £230 I had only just replaced it due to a nail in the sidewall (of another brand new tyre) so the bills were starting to rack up. I complained to the council that claims it has a reasonable system of inspection in place as its defence under section 58 of the Highways Act, 1980. I don't feel as though this is good enough but do not know what to do next. Have you any ideas?

If the pothole was reported and remained unrepaired, you have a case. If you were the first to report it you don't. The state of Britain's roads mean it is now impractical to run big wheels with ultra low profile tyres. More on pothole damage rights at www.potholes.co.uk
