After sales back-up

I bought a new BMW 320iSE in Feb 2010. My wife has experienced severe backache and problems since then. Cushions of varying shapes and of orthopaedic standard have been purchased, but the problem remains. The 'rake' of the seat and other adjustments (as per instruction manual) have been altered etc, but to no permanent effect. Application to BMW was made and they stated that this is not covered by warranty and the car is a sports type and has hard seating, which should ease with use. (To exchange the seat could cost up to £3,000). I am anxious to do whatever it takes for her to obtain comfort (I suspect the angle of the horizontal component is not at a right-angle where it meets the vertical lumbar component, but is less than 90 and therefore quite acute. This is I believe the problem.) Can you advise or help at all please?

You will find the proper way to adjust the seat at: www.drivingergonomics.com . Many older people make the mistake of adjusting the backrest too upright. This is completely wrong because it concentrates the entire weight of the torso on the base of the spine. If the seat back is slightly reclined then the load is spread along the person’s back into the seat back.
