Power struggle

I wish to join the growing number of Meriva owners experiencing the fault concerning the EPS warning light and the consequential loss of steering. My Meriva is just under five years old with less than 35k on clock. In the past two weeks it has been to a local garage once and then to dealership twice for diagnostic check. On no occassion has the fault been found (at the time of testing) but I have now lost power assistance to the steering on five occasions in the past week. On one occasion I was turning left to join the slip road for the A1 and nearly piled into a queue of traffic. Having read through many similar tales on the Internet I cannot believe Vauxhall's cavalier attitude (no pun intended) in not recalling all Merivas for safety checks. I am now understandably extremely nervous about driving this car. I look forward to your response in due course and in interim will report this fault to the VOSA website.

Vauxhall blames owners holding the cars on lock. Since it is an electric power steering system, this burns out the motor. It's the closest I have ever got to any reaction from GM. The new Meriva has a different, much better steering system.
