Accidental tourist

I have had a letter from the MIB. Never heard of them, and neither has anyone I ask and I am suspicious. The letter tells me 1. I was involved in a traffic accident last December in France. True. 2. Location not known (!) 3. I was driving vehicle T832BEL. Not true. 4. I was not insured. Not true. Been comprehensively insured all over the world for 55 years. 5. I should contact Solicitors. 6. I must tell them if I was insured and give my Insurers and Policy number. 7. They are writing to me because they have been approached in their capacity as the Green Card Bureau and their job is to provide an insurance guarantee for British vehicles involved in an incident in Europe. If these people were genuine then they could get car and insurance details from the DVLA. Further, if they had really been approached they would know that in accordance with French procedures a CONSTAT AMIABLE D’ACCIDENT AUTOMOBILE had been completed by both parties giving every fraction of detail of where, when, vehicles, damage, insurers etc. I think I have 4 possible options: Ignore the letter, answer much as I have written above, tell my insurers, seek legal opinion (covered by my car insurance) If you think the whole thing is dodgy you may care to warn all your readers.

I don't know what this is. It may be an attempt to confuse because www.askmid.co.uk is where you go to check if your car insurance is on the Motor Insurers Database. You should report this matter to the claims regulators: www.www.cueuk.org; www.ico.gov.uk and www.claimsregulation.gov.uk
