What do you think of the Mercedes-Benz W126 range - is it a good buy as a classic?

What do you think of the Mercedes-Benz W126 range? Especially the V8 engine cars, the 420 and 500 models?

They're excellent and the V8s are the icing on the cake. Built for comfort rather than performance, they feel very solid to drive. Like any old car though, you'll need to allocate appropriate funds for monthly running costs as they're thirsty old barges,
