Renault CLio 'Y' Reg not firing up..!!?

I have a 'Y' Reg Renault Clio and about a week ago it started not firing up first time in a morning. I turn the ignition and I get the red 'oil can' light and then sometimes the red 'stop water tap' sign. When attempting to start the car the ignition hits for about 3 seconds and cuts out, this is the case for around 3/4 tries and then the warning lights don't appear and the car fires up straight away. Yesterday I couldn't get the car to start for around 3/4 mins - every time I turned the ignition on the oil can appears and I get nothing when I try to start. Eventually it kicks in the warning lights disappear but a few miles down the road the power to the engine simply cuts and I have to pull over, restart the car and it works fine. I have correct levels of oil and have topped up recently, I have also checked the coolant and topped up there. I've read somewhere that it might be the fuel lines and that they may possibly be clogged up as it is an old car? Might explain why it cut out on me. I've been recommended REDEX as a first option before taking it in to the garage and just wanted to ask on here if anyone had any ideas?

Have you got a ECU fitted to your car? It appears that you have a fault somewhere in the car and it is sending a signal to the ECU telling it to not start the engine. The fault must be intermittent as it appears to come and go. You may need to out the car on a diagnostic check to identify the fault.
