Could claiming for a cracked windscreen write off my old car?

I have a much-loved 1995 Honda Prelude, which I've owned from new and kept in good condition. Unfortunately it has a crack in the top near-side corner of the windscreen, which will cause it to fail its upcoming MoT. I think this was caused by hitting a pothole, but I've got no proof to back that up. I have windscreen cover on my insurance, but I'm worried that for a foreign-built car of this age and rarity that the cost of replacing the windscreen would be more than the market value of the car. I'm concerned that if I make a claim then the insurers would just write the vehicle off. What would be my best course of action to keep my Prelude on the road?

When making a claim for a windscreen, it's not like making a claim on your normal policy. The value of your car will have no bearing on whether they fit a windscreen or not. It won't affect your no claims or claims history because it's not making a claim on your motor insurance policy, windscreen cover is separate.
