Layoffs at Jaguar

The luxury car maker Jaguar P.L.C. laid off more than 8,000 workers today because of a dispute that has paralyzed production. Jaguar said production of 870 cars worth nearly $:22 million ($37 million) had been lost since warehouse workers walked out last week, contending that a manager assaulted a shop steward.The layoffs involve plants in Coventry, in central England, and Castle Bromwich, in the north. Union leaders were not available to comment.
