Record Sales at Jaguar

The luxury car maker Jaguar P.L.C. said today that it had achieved a record monthly sales total in August,with 5,781 cars being sold worldwide. This was nearly 11 percent higher in volume terms than the previous record month, August 1987. A Jaguar spokeswoman said the group's sales in the first eight months climbed 8.4 percent, to 33,631 vehicles, from 31,018 in the 1987 period. American sales fell, however, to 13,081 cars, from 14,148 in the 1987 period.
