Secret vote on Jaguar strike threat
15 April 1988
DAILY EXPRESS
Hopes were high last night of averting a strike at Jaguar's Coventry car plant. Following seven hours of talks between management and union officials, a formula was agreed to stave off a stoppage over proposals to speed up the assembly line to turn out an extra 32 cars a week.
The 4,500 workers at the plant, who have had a stake in the firm since it was privatised four years ago and have seen their dividends soar , are to vote in secret ballots on a compromise package.
