ARG in new deal with Honda
29 April 1987
THE GLASGOW HERALD
Austin Rover is again linking with Honda of Japan, this time to produce a new range of family size cars. Honda is also to go ahead with a new engine plant at Swindon, employing 150 people. Work will start on the plant in the autumn and it will be ready to go into operation in 1989. The new range of cars is expected to replace Austin Rover's Maestro and Rover 200 models and Honda's Civic and Ballade in 1989-90.
Austin Rover will build both ranges of the new car at Longbridge in Birmingham, both for Honda and its own dealers. Honda will carry out a parallel process in Japan. Power units for the cars will be manufactured at Longbridge and by Honda at Swindon. The two companies have been collaborating since 1979.
