Rover in Talks On Truck Unit

5 February 1987

NEW YORK TIMES

The Rover Group, the British automobile maker, is holding talks with the Dutch company DAF and the American concern Paccar Inc. about the future of its Leyland Trucks division, Rover's chairman, Graham Day, said.

Mr Day said that Leyland Trucks was doing well in the domestic market, but that traditional markets in Africa and the Middle East had withered. He also said Rover was considering talks on its Freight Rover division, but had not put the division up for sale. He also announced plans to continue production of the highly popular Mini car, which was introduced in 1960. Plans to stop production next month were scrapped because of strong demand, he said.
