LEYLAND BUS JOB CUTS BLOW

Job cuts were announced by Leyland Bus yesterday only a month after a management buy-out of the firm from the Rover Group. A total of 157 redundancies are needed to " return the company to profitability." Managing director Ian McKinnon said 468 would go at the Farington, Lancashire plant, 131 at Workington and 158 at head office.
The date for the cuts will be decided after talks with the unions. Mr McKinnon pointed out that the firm made a pre-tax loss of £33 million last year.
