BL RUMOURS HIT CAR SALES
Rumours over British Leyland's future cost the Austin Rover car division almost £240 million in lost sales last month it was claimed last night. Up to 40,000cars were left standing in the showroom when talks of a Ford take-over, confused buyers into thinking existing ranges would end.
Managing Director Mark Snowden made the claim as he launched a deal for Austin Rover to build Japanese Honda Ballade cars at Birmingham's Longbridge plant.
