Chairman Percy Plant reports that BL's views have , however , 'hardened' on the need for a diesel engine by 1984 . The BL Cars Programme Review Comittees firm view is passed on for Bob Knight's attention , i.e that the XJ40 programme volumes are not achievable without a suitable diesel version and that the volumes should therefore be reduced or a diesel project brought forward .
