CAR SALES ON DOWNHILL RIDE
The car sales dead-end into which British Leyland has driven is spotlighted by grim figures issued today. The firm's sales nose dived to 27,212 last month compared with 41,800 in November last year.
Home sales of all British cars crashed from 83,100 to 59,300; And British Leyland cannot be bailed out by parent companies in America or Europe. Ironically, exports by British car firms are increasing, despite the disastrous home record.
This year's exports total is £356 million—12 per cent, up on 1973. One small consolation for 250,000 Midlanders who, one way or another, rely on British Leyland for their livelihoods, is that the car industry crisis has hit Europe, too.
