Our failure by car boss

OUR FAILURE BY CAR BOSS

British Leyland bosses have been disappointed by their failure to make enough cars to satisfy their export potential, chairman Lord Stokes admitted yesterday. "We could have sold a lot more if only we could have produced them," he said at the opening of the Frankfurt motor show."

He added that changes in the corporation's top management were intended to cope with the problem. Two directors recently resigned.

Lord Stokes forecast that British Leyland would export 285,000 cars and commercial vehicles to Western Europe this year — 53,000 more than last year.
