Jag men win fixed wages

9 August 1973

DAILY MIRROR

Seven thousand Jaguar car workers were offered a revolutionary new pay deal yesterday.

First stage of the "secure earnings plan" would scrap piecework and bring in a flat rate of £48-50 a week for skilled men and £47-50 for semi-skilled.

From April 1 next year the rates would range up to £50 with a review every twelve months. A Jaguar spokesman in Coventry said the scheme would mean more consistent production and extra financial security for the workers. He understood that senior shop stewards would urge acceptance of stage two of the plan, he said.
