Rubery Owen Strike Continues

28 April 1973

British Leyland Mini, Rover and Jaguar saloon car output has stopped. Although the Rover plant at Solihull has been building cars without wheels which are made by Rubery Owen, it now has more than 2,000 incomplete cars stockpiled and production is bound to stop after the weekend.

At Longbridge, Birmingham, where Mini production has been stopped for more than two weeks, output of 1100 and 1300 cars is likely to be badly hit within the next day or two. Triumph car output in the Midlands and on Merseyside and Maxi car production at Cowley, Oxford, are also now threatened: as is British Leyland's bus and truck production at its five Lancashire factories.
