Threatened Leyland strike called off

Another breakthrough in the two-year battle to replace piece-work with a measured day rate at British Leyland's Austin-Morris works at Longbridge came yesterday when 100 men who assemble Marina engines called off a threatened strike. This followed an announcement by shop stewards that they would not give them financial support.

The stewards, who represent 12000 Longbridge production workers called yesterday on the 100 men to postpone their strike for higher piecework rates.
