BLMC settlement
28 April 1972
British Leyland settlement:
The 8.000 workers at British Leyland's truck and bus division agreed yesterday to accept a pay offer worth about £5 a week plus an extra day of holiday a year. The claim was originally based on the engineering unions' demand for a substantial wage increase, shorter hours and longer holidays.
A strike was due to start from today if no settlement was reached. The settlement means an extra £2.50 on the general rate and £2.50 on the time rate, which controls the rates for holidays and shift Payment. Women workers are to be paid 85 per cent of the male rates. In addition night shift workers are to receive 10 hours holiday pay for statutory holidays.
