Leyland plant resumes output

2 October 1970

Production was resumed at the British Leyland Austin-Morris plant at Longbridge yesterday when 165 internal drivers went back to work after striking the day before. Car assembly however, was still at a standstill at the company's Cowley, Oxford, plant. The drivers' stoppage led to 3.000 Longbridge assembly workers being sent home on Wednesday.

At Cowley 2,300 other workers have been laid off for more than a fortnight because of an unofficial strike of 1100 men. The dispute is about pay rates that will apply when Minor 1000 assembly lines are phased out. Two other unofficial strikes in British Leyland group factories were called off yesterday, both at the Standard- Triumph car plant at Coventry where they began on Wednesday,
