Pilkington Glass strike

The shortage of windscreen glass has already brought the Jaguar plant in Coventry the standstill. making 1,700 workers idle, and Rover has laid off 1,700 workers at its Solihull assembly plant.
The company was also compelled yesterday to stop production of Land Rover's because of a shortage of engine oil seals. A total of 1,000 workers were laid off. 400 Of them at the main assembly plant in Solihull and the rest at factories in the Birmingham area which makes engines, gearboxes and other components.
