The five-week dispute at the Girling brake factory at Bromborough is over. The strike caused workers at the Rover factory at Solihull to be laid off. The dispute originally involved 75 workers in the nonstandard section of the factory over piece work, and led to a brake components shortage and threatened a complete shutdown of the British motor industry.
Rover's car factories were closed down, and in all about 1,500 people were laid off. Rover production is expected to be back to normal by mid-week.
