Delivery men will go back to work

18 August 1969

THE GUARDIAN

The Coventry car factory of Standard-Triumph is expected today to resume normal production, with storage yards now free of stockpiled cars, following the ending of a two week strike by delivery drivers. The 50 drivers , employed by an outside firm , Progressive Deliveries Ltd., had stopped work over a grievance when their driving duties were moved from one depot to another. The car firm at the end of last week had to lay off 1,200 men and curtail production , but normal output should resume today. The drivers' strike was called off to allow more talks.

At Jaguar Cars in Coventry, 2,000 employees from today start losing one day a week due to a shortage of components resulting from a recent strike in British Leyland factories in Lancashire.

Also in Coventry, Pressed Steel Fisher have 700 men laid off due to a strike in Oxford at the British Road Services depot.
