Settlement at Leylands

5 July 1969

The dispute over piecework rates at the five British Leyland vehicle factories in Lancashire which led to a five week strike by 8,500 workers has been settled. After a fortnight of negotiations between shop stewards and the management two mass meetings in Leyland and Chorley last night accepted the new management pay proposals which means that no skilled worker will receive less than £23 13s. 8d. a week- the basic sum the strikers had demanded.

The men have also agreed to lift their two week ban on overtime. The stoppage cost the company £5-5m. in lost production.
