10,000 car men laid off

More than 10,000 car workers were laid off yesterday because of an unofficial strike by 130 maintenance men at the Pressed Steel- Fisher car body factory at Castle Bromwich, Birmingham.
Mr. Hugh Scanlon, president of the Amalgamated Union of Engineering and Foundry Workers, is going to Birmingham today to urge the strikers to go back to work. About 6,000 were laid off at Castle Bromwich and 4,250 at the Austin factory, Longbridge.
