Former Standard boss joins Volkswagen

6 March 1968

DAILY EXPRESS
By David Benson

A man who was once a top name in car manufacturing was back in the, motor business last night after seven years. He is 51-year-old Alick Dick, who quit as managing director of Standard Motors in 1961, four months after it was taken over by Leyland.

His new job: Industrial consultant with Volkswagen's British sales organisation. His task there will be to Buy British – Volkswagen now wants more components and spares to be British-made.

Mr Dick said last night: 'I'm looking forward with excitement to being associated once again with the greatest industry in the world – albeit in a different capacity.'

With Standard's he was the man behind the Triumph Herald and Triumph 2000. His appointment is part of a shake-up announced last night in Volkswagen's British set-up. The firm will now deal direct with dealers, cutting out distributors entirely.
