Four-day week

4 September 1961

Seven-hundred workers at the Hemel Hempstead New Town factory of Alford and Aldred, a Standard-Triumph subsidiary, start a four- day week today and will lose an average of £3 a week. The four-day week will last until the end of the year.

Because of increasing responsibilities within the Leyland group which prevent Mr S. Markland spending all the time at Albion Motors which he considers necessary, Mr A. C. Macdonald, who for several years has been a director and production controller of Albion, has been appointed general manager.
