Auction profile: Charterhouse
Classic cars have featured in Charterhouse sales since the company was founded in 1999 as a general auctioneer operating in Sherborne, Dorset.
Initially, classic car auctions took place once a year, but from 2008 the classic car department has developed to become a key part of the business, with around six sales a year. This growth owes much to associate partner Matthew Whitney, who heads up the Classic Car and Motorcycle Department and is a self-confessed petrolhead, having owned a Jaguar XJ6 for two years before he could legally drive on the road.
Sales usually include a substantial selection of automobilia, along with motorcycles and a classic car line-up that broadly takes in the popular and affordable sector of the market, along with barn finds, curios, pre-war machinery and ‘young timers’. All auctions use live Internet bidding platforms.
Charterhouse classic car sales are all held in the South West, with three auctions a year at the Bristol Classic Car shows, a summer sale at the Classics at the Castle event at Sherborne Castle, and two extra sales at the Bath and West Showground.
