Why do the front brake calipers on my Jaguar X-Type keep binding?

Five years ago I purchased a very clean low mileage (85k) 2003 2.5L automatic Jaguar X-Type from an elderly gentleman who had only used it for short, local journeys. Before he owned it, the car had been serviced at 80k miles by Jagman in Wigan.
Unfortunately, I have subsequently had a continuous problem with both front brake calipers binding. It only occurs after the car has been driven for 5 or 6 miles, but then gets progressively worse until it becomes almost undriveable. Initially, I removed, cleaned and lubricated (with silicone grease) all the caliper slide pins, but this didn't improve matters.

I am thinking that the car might have an ABS fault. I took it to a Bosch specialist, but his diagnostic tests proved inconclusive and he suggested that I replace both front calipers. New calipers haven't made any difference, so the problem must lie somewhere else in the braking system. After an MoT failure for corrosion, I had new brake pipes fitted to the rear of the car, so all the old brake fluid has been replaced.

As you will be aware, this car shares many components with the Ford Mondeo, including brake calipers, but I am unaware of any reported common fault. I would very much appreciate any ideas that you may have regarding this very frustrating problem.

I've owned a few X-Types and had the same fault on one of mine, albeit on just the one side – I also replaced the caliper with a new aftermarket part and it made no difference. I ended up instead sourcing a refurbished genuine Jaguar caliper and the problem ever returned.
