More A.E.C lay-offs

7 May 1971

A further 500 A.E.C. workers were laid off yesterday because of the bonus dispute at the British Leyland truck subsidiary's main plant at Southall, Middlesex. The latest batch, at the company's Alcester. Warwickshire, engine plant, brings the total of workers laid off to 3000.

Ninety men in the Southall engine shop have been on unofficial strike for over two weeks, because they say their bonus has been cut by up to £3.60 a week. Talks between A.E.C. and the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers are continuing at local level.

Triumph return
Following meetings, shop stewards have told the Triumph management at Liverpool that there will be a full resumption of work next Monday at the company's plants.
