We’ve brought you the 20 most endangered cars in the UK – cars that were once common and are now very rare indeed – but what cars from the 1980s are rarest, full stop? We’ve had a look at the DVLA records to find out – the list below covers cars registered between 1980-'89.

Citroen Dyane – 117 still licenced

The Dyane was only sold until 1983, while its close-cousin – the 2CV – soldiered on into the 1990s. That’s perhaps why so few Dyanes remain registered and taxed on UK roads. Most of the mechanical components are the same as the 2CV, so maintenance is simple.

An omission is the FSO Polonez, introduced in the late 1970s and sold until the early 1990s. A much maligned car, but it gave me many thousands of (almost) trouble free motoring, including trips to the GDR.
