Top 10: Classic TVRs

There’s an all-new TVR due on sale in 2017, bringing this iconic marque back to life a decade after the last car was produced. Details are still sketchy but we know it will be V8-powered, built in the UK and – being a TVR – more than a bit exciting. Frankly, we can’t wait.

Meanwhile, we have an amazing array of classic TVRs to choose from on today’s scene, some of which can now be snapped up for surprisingly sensible money. Heck, who wouldn’t be tempted by a Chimaera at £8000 or so? Here’s the pick of our favourites from the last few decades.

TVR V8S (1990-94)

A more traditional TVR look was announced when the S-series was unveiled at the 1986 British Motor Show – and so positive was the reaction, the newcomer was in production within twelve months. Despite its M-series overtones, this was an all-new model and proved most popular in V6 Ford-engined spec. Top of the tree, however, was the later V8S featuring 4.0-litre ex-Rover power for an output of 240bhp. The result was a class-leading 0-60mph time of 4.9 seconds. Of the 2604 S-series cars built, more than 400 were of the V8S variety.
