Model Timeline

February 2000
New Celica revealed

Entire car re-thought for 2000. 101mm shorter with much better steering and handling than previous car. 4,355mm x 1,735mm. Not too heavy at 1,155 - 1,185kg.

Six-speed manual. Standard 1.8 VVT-i has 140 bhp, but 1.8 litre Celica 190 has 192 bhp, and 133 lb ft, giving 0-60 in 7 seconds and a top speed of 140 mph. All engines are timing chain, not belt. List prices cut to from £16,995 for 140bhp but increased from £19,995 to £20,495 for Celica 190.

Probably the best handling front wheel drive car you can buy, and the extra 52 bhp of the 190 T-Sport makes it better still. By far the best 2.0 litre coupe of its day. Highly recommended.

October 2003

Facelift brought better brakes , better trim and aerodynamic improvements. After criticism that the new 190 listed at more than £23k, Toyota cut the price to £20,995.

Standard wheel and tyre sizes were 15-inch with 195/60 R15 tyres; 16-inch with 205/50 R16 tyres or 17-inch with 215/45 R17 tyres.
