Isle of Lewis

1974 phase 1 R12 'Turismo Luxe' . 1289cc. manual box. 26k from new. Garaged from new. Supplied by Renault Manchester in October 1974. The one previous owner traded an R8s in for the R12. I've personally known and maintained this classic Renault from virtually new. The structure and underside is extremely good, having been treated by the supplying dealer from new, and re applied by myself in 2012 when coaxed out of hibernation. The paint is tired in places an best described as cosmetically challenged, although still presentable. Some areas have been carefully prepared and treated with marine grade red oxide to preserve against the hebridean atmosphere. Mechanically very good, on the button. Peppy, free revving engine and nice gearbox. Extremely comfortable and stylish interior. Registered as historic and fully road legal. The braking system was fully overhauled in 2016. Only 2k summer miles since. Fitted with period correct "boutique" upgrades. These are now rare and expensive to acquire. Iso delta steering wheel. Dunlop ro style wheels x 5 California door mirrors. Under dash rev counter (still have the original box) Included in the asking price, are original steel wheels and Michelin tyres dated 1974 + bolt on chrome trims. As new steering wheel. Radio console and radio ( untested ). 1 steel front wing ( genuine Renault ). Slight perforation to the lower o/s rear door and slight surface bubbling to the rear arches and front wings. All very typical of the period, but easily rectified. Drives extremely well and tight, strong engine. Deserves a fresh coat of paint. Or use as is. For those not familiar with the R12, the standard spec is as follows ÷ Rack and pinion steering. Coil springs all round including double wishbone suspension. FWD. Disc brakes. Two speed wipers + electric wash. HRW. Modern heating and ventilation. These light and well balanced French saloons are attracting serious interest now. Easy to maintain with good parts availability. Very economical. Tax free and Mot exempt. Original RHD UK supplied Renault. Please study the latest pics, taken last week, as is, after a long winter sleeping. For the record, he started easily and was treated to a warm soapy massage and blast around the empty hebridean roads. I have copious amounts of images available if required. Just ask. Thanks for looking. Regards.
