We’ve brought you the 20 most endangered cars in the UK – cars that were once common and are now very rare indeed – but what cars from the 1980s are rarest, full stop? We’ve had a look at the DVLA records to find out – the list below covers cars registered between 1980-'89.

Peugeot 305 – 116 still licenced
The 305 went on sale in Europe in 1977, designed as a rival for the bestselling family cars of the day. It wasn’t as popular as competitors from Ford, Vauxhall or Volkswagen, but it’s still quite a surprise that only 116 are left with valid tax discs in their windows.

An omission is the FSO Polonez, introduced in the late 1970s and sold until the early 1990s. A much maligned car, but it gave me many thousands of (almost) trouble free motoring, including trips to the GDR.
